Confusion about Medigap Plan F?

by David Edge

Many folks are confused about Plan F availability going forward. As you’ve probably already seen the ads on TV or print in newspapers everybody is saying you won’t be able to get Plan F after the year 2020. That’s almost correct but…

  • If you already have Plan F you can keep it.
  • If you turn 65 before 2020 and were eligible for Plan F but selected some other Plan (like Medigap Plan G, or a Medicare Advantage plan) and want to switch to Plan F after 2020, you will be able to. A word of caution here as most carriers will still require you to answer the medical underwriting questions to qualify to switch.

If you turn 65 after December 31, 2019, you will not be eligible to select Plan F at any time going forward.
